API is
the only national trade association
that represents all aspects of America’s oil and natural gas
industry. Our 400 corporate members, from the largest major oil company
to the smallest of independents, come from all segments of the industry.
They are producers, refiners, suppliers, pipeline operators and marine
transporters, as well as service and supply companies
that support all segments of the industry. Although
our focus is primarily domestic,
in recent years our work has expanded to include a growing international
dimension, and today API is recognized around the world for its
broad range of programs in areas such as advocacy, research and
statistics, standards, certification, and education.

For consumers,
API provides the Engine Oil Licensing and Certification System (EOLCS).
This voluntary licensing and certification program authorizes engine
oil marketers
that meet specified requirements to use the API Engine Oil Quality
Marks. The Engine
Oil Quality Marks identify oil marketers that have certified that
they meet API engine oil performance requirements. Consumers
also benefit from API’s Diesel Exhaust Fluid Certification
Program. Like EOLCS, this voluntary certification program authorizes
diesel exhaust fluid marketers that meet specified requirements
to use the API Diesel Exhaust Fluid Certification Mark. This Mark
identifies diesel exhaust fluid marketers that have certified that
they
meet ISO performance requirements.
